This quote comes from the great Russian novelist Fyodor Dostoevsky (1821–1881), in his masterpiece The Brothers Karamazov. A powerful and deceptively simple piece of wisdom. Dostoevsky believed that self-deception is the root of many human failings, and that true moral growth begins with radical honesty toward oneself.
